Acacia polyacantha

Large tree. Stem is erect, grows to an average height of 10-15 m, yellowish in younger trees. Bark is papery, smoother and whitish grey in older tree. Young branches are covered in silvery hairs and the whole tree is covered in dark brown to black hooked thorns in pairs. Leaves are puberulous or pubescent, with a gland at the junction of the top 3-17 pinnae pairs. Leaflets are small, narrow to narrowly triangular. Inflorescence is spicate, solitary or fascicled. Flowers are yellowish-white, sessile. Fruits are straight, flat pods, brown, rarely puberulous, dehiscent Seeds are 9-7 x 6-8 mm and compressed, 3-10 per pod, dark brown.
