Description

Annual cultivated legume. Stem is erect, hollow, unbranched. Leaves are alternate, pinnately compound, with 2 to 6 leaflets. Leaflets are rounded or oval, up to 6-8 cm long and 2-4 cm broad. The inflorescences are borne are axillary racemes. Flowers are large (up to 3-4 cm long), white with black and dark purple spots and lines. Fruits are dehiscent cylindrical pods, green when young and turn to dark brown or black at maturity. Seeds are oblong-oval, with a distinctive hilum.
