Description

Annual herb. Stem is erect. Leaves are variable, generally green, petiolate, oval lanceolate, acute at apex, entirely hairless , oppositely arranged on the lower parts of the stem and below the flower clusters, alternately arranged along most of the stem. Flowers are tiny, several tiny male flowers and one female flower. The male flowers are reduced to stamens and the female flower consists of a very large stalked ovary topped with a stigma, borne in dense clusters at the tips of the branches, greenish or yellowish in colour and each one is borne on a separate stalk. Fruits are small, segmented capsules.
